6000 Years – Steve Rangel
6000 years is a long, long time
For a little man with a little mind
But I can believe – there’s more
’cause we can perceive – or ignore
6000 years – I can picture the notion
Is a drop – in all of the oceans
It never ends and never starts
Still you forsake your reason, and close your hearts
6000 years ago maybe people had more sense
And didn’t worry in the past or future tense
Maybe they knew the holiness of truth
Before some greedy fool came and robbed us of our youth
Long as I can remember
I’ve been searchin’, searchin’, searchin’
Searchin’ in books and between the lines
Searchin’ with plants and states of mind
Searching for something that’s searching for me
Since I left the garden - reality
6000 years, 6000 possibilities
To discard the facts, forsake your rationality
6000 preachers test their power of authority
To bend the fairy tale to all limits of absurdity
If there is a god, why should he measure days
Related to a speck of dust in the cosmic haze
Our whole existence is a blinking of the eye
A drop of rain rising from the ocean
Into an endless sky
